You can’t really say that Michael Phelps didn’t get this gig because of “Bong Gate.”  I would say it has a lot more to do with the fact that his teeth aren’t exactly the type that the Michigan Dental Association wants to brag about on their posters.  So even though Phelps trains in Michigan, they chose native son, and Olympic Gold Medalist, swimmer Peter Vanderkaay.  Even though most people have probably never heard of him, at least the Dental Association doesn’t have to worry about the drug issue.

Jenny Craig has signed another overweight actress to slim down – Phylicia Rashad.  An interesting choice, considering most people don’t really know who she is anymore, although she is a prolific Broadway performer.  Like I said…most people don’t know who she is.

It was at least fun to watch Kirstie Alley.  She’s a little crazy and was seen all over town when she was on the diet.  She was also grossly overweight, so seeing her changes were pretty dramatic.  Of course she packed it all back on (or at least most of it), got dropped from Jenny Craig and claimed she was coming out with her own diet program (which we have yet to see).  But the “all you can eat” concept still doesn’t seem to be panning out so well for her.  I guess she needs to sit down with those “scientists” again and see what they can come up with.

Hi….sorry I’m so bad at posting today. I’m back with my family in Coldville, aka Cleveland. It was snowing like crazy when I landed and snowed most of the day after that. Today, it’s just freezing cold. I’m wrapped head to toe in anything I can find that will keep me from becoming yet another statistic found frozen solid in the parking lot of a mall. I guess I’ll have another glass of red wine. Hey, doesn’t alcohol work as some kind of antifreeze in the body? And, if that’s the case, then it’s a serious multi-tasker. Because I’m planning on using it tomorrow as liquid Xanax (oh, family…you gotta love ‘em).

A lawsuit was filed against KMart and Martha Stewart Omnimedia for making defective furniture.  Patrick Albanese, a professional magician; a banjo player; and self-proclaimed hand model, has sued because when he was moving a lounge chair, the legs collapsed crushing his finger between the chair and a deck.  The fingertip was surgically re-attached and is usable, but has cost him a bit of work while it is healing (this happened in June 2008).  Duh.

Waaaaahhhhhh!  Pretty much everyone has had one of those chairs have the folding legs collapse.  You can’t stay sitting in those things when you’re trying to move them…or you’ll end up like one of those idiots on America’s Funniest Home Videos..or you’ll lose your finger.

I’m thinking Martha Stewart’s gonna be ok on this one.  But hey, Sears….now’s your chance to bailout of KMart.  You’ve been looking for a way to do it, just tell Mr. Magic Banjo player you’ll give him all of KMart.  Everyone’s problem is solved.

No, I’m not talking about a 10 year old getting waxed in Hollywood – although that probably does happen!  In another case of recycling movies from the 80’s, Jaden Smith is going to be in The Karate Kid.  The part that Ralph Macchio played.  No word yet on who will play Mr. Miyagi.  But daddy, Will Smith, is listed as co-producer.

It seems like everyday, there’s another “actress” turning into a “designer” and launching some kind of clothing line.  Well, while the ladies are working, the boys are playing and getting endorsement deals.  Ashton Kutcher is shilling for Nikon and now Justin Timberlake has been signed by Callaway Golf to endorse their products.   At least Justin has been a known golfer for years.  He plays in charity tournaments, as well as having his own in Las Vegas.  He also has an eco-friendly course in Memphis that is to open in early 2009.  So I guess, if you subscribe to the concept “if a celebrity uses it, it must be good” you’ll be seeing Justin hitting the course with all Callaway gear.

Errrr….more precisely, she blogs. The self-proclaimed technophobe has taken the plunge and now has a MySpace page: MySpace/Jessica Biel. It’s a slippery slope my dear. Once you start, you need to keep it up.  Justin Timberlake isn’t listed as one of her friends yet.

Hello MySpace!

Okay, so I’m sitting in my trailer between set-ups and I am praying for a surge of inspiration to make my first blogging experience a positive one.

I definitely did not make it onto the debate team in high school so I’m feeling extremely insecure about communicating publicly for the first time via the blogosphere (how about that word for a novice?). I’m still getting the lingo down. I have been “internet challenged” long enough and am thrilled to join the tech revolution! Plus, I only have four friends and am in dire need of more. Just kidding, I have six.

Anyway, not only do I feel cooler being an official blogger, but I’m also realizing that this is a perfect place to share some projects that I’m working on that I’m really excited about. I’m trying on the producer cap with my friend, Michelle, with our production company Iron Ocean Films. We made a thirty minute short last year, called Hole in the Paper Sky about a man’s experience after meeting a dog that changes his life. I think it’s a really evocative, beautiful film, and it has won an award at all four festivals where it has screened. I’ll put up a trailer as soon as I can figure out how to do that:) I hope that animal lovers will be moved by this film as well because it has an animal rights element to it, which I’m a huge advocate for. I’m actually sitting here with my dog, Tina. She’s not really into blogging.

We also have a feature in development with United Artists, called Die A Little based on a book by Meagan Abbott. It’s a noir set in Hollywood during the glamorous 1950’s. I loved the book and I think it has major cinematic potential, but I’m getting a first hand look at how difficult development is. Hopefully, I won’t be too old by the time we shoot this thing so I can play the main character. Fingers crossed.

Also, considering the state of the world right now, I’ve been discovering some really amazing non profit organizations that are giving back to the planet and the people in wonderful and innovative ways. I’m going to try to highlight one that I’m really interested in every month. To find out more information on how to donate, check out mtdn.com. This writer’s strike is going to make me really appreciate books. Donald Trump’s Apprentice starts tonight – You know it got bad over at NBC when they decided to bring back The Apprentice as CELEBRITY Apprentice. Why do I have the feeling that this is going to be like that horrible show: I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here? This is truly a batch of Z-Listers: Nadia Comaneci, Jennie Finch, Marilu Henner, Carol Alt, Lennox Lewis, Gene Simmons, Piers Morgan, Stephen Baldwin, Tiffany Fallon, Tito Ortiz, Vincent Pastore, Omarosa, Nely Galan, & Trace Adkins. Ok, I was being generous with calling this group Z-Listers…because most of these people you’ve probably never even heard of.

I can’t wait to see Tito Ortiz and Lennox Lewis get in a heated debate over which one is the better fighter….or when the celebs have to call on their celebrity friends to help them compete in their challenges. (Tito’s girlfriend Jenna Jameson and Tiffany Fallon (Playboy Playmate) in a lingerie pose off for charity.)

This one’s going to be real short on business challenges and big on celebrity guests to help boost the ratings. (At least their charities will be getting some money, so something good is going to come from this mess.)

Of course, half the fun of The Apprentice is watching the golden Chia Pet on Donald’s head.
