After pitching 6 no hit innings, Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a hit and run accident this morning.  There were two other people in the car that were also killed and a fourth is in critical condition.  No, I haven’t turned this into a sports blog, and I’ve got nothing snarky to say about this.  Stuff like this really pisses me off!

Adenhart and the driver, Courtney Stewart, had been dancing at a club, after his fantastic show on field earlier that evening.  As they were driving through the intersection, they were hit by a mini van.  The mini van ran a red light.  The driver of the mini van fled the scene and was found walking along the neighboring highway – under the influence.  He had been driving on a suspended license for….wait for it…DUI.  And, the douchebag left his passenger, hurt, in the van when he fled.

Nick Adenhart was 22 years old…and baseball was his everything.  He played in high school and was part of several minor league teams.  He finally had his first major league start last year.  Last night’s start was his 3rd major league start with many more on the horizon, since he was the Angels number 3 pitcher.

(I’m stepping up on my soapbox)  If you drink don’t drive.  If you’ve had your license suspended because you got caught drinking and driving…suck it up, learn your lesson, and move on.  Don’t be the conceited jerk that thinks to himself/herself “oh it won’t happen to me – again.”  It will, and the next time you probably won’t be so lucky as to just end up killing yourself, you’ll end up killing someone else. Let me present to you William “Jeff” Komlo, former NFL player with the Detroit Lions.  In fact, he was a standout player at the University of Delaware and a starting quarterback for the Lions.  He also played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  That’s pretty impressive.

Four years ago, he failed to show up for sentencing regarding a couple of drunk driving offenses in Chester County, Pennsylvania.  And when he did that, the Federal Marshall’s Office issued a big ol’ arrest warrant for his ass.  I guess he thought that running was a pretty good idea considering he was also being looked at for an arson fire at his Pennsylvania home, and another arson fire at his West Palm Beach, Florida home.

Fast forward to 2009, when karma comes calling.  Jeff Komo was killed in a car accident in Greece.  There have been no details released regarding the accident other than they ran the fingerprints of the person killed in the crash and they turned out to be those of William “Jeff” Komlo.  Ain’t karma a bitch?

Natasha Richardson is in critical condition after being severely injured in a skiing accident in Canada.

The award winning Richardson, who is the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave and is married to Liam Neeson, has suffered a head injury while skiing in Montreal.

Timout New York is reporting that Natasha Richardson has died as a result of her injuries.

Last night it was reported that the actor Natasha Richardson had critically injured her head in a skiing accident at the Mont Tremblant resort outside of Montreal, Canada. Although public reports have not yet confirmed it, sources close to Richardson’s family and friends say they have already been told the awful news: She did not survived the accident.

This precipitate loss is a terrible one. Richardson was only 45 and had two adolescent sons; our thoughts go to them and to her husband, the actor Liam Neeson. The theater world, too, is bereft by her departure. Richardson has been the most verdant new branch of one of the great English theatrical family trees: the child of Vanessa Redgrave and the late Tony Richardson, the niece of Lynn Redgrave and Corin Redgrave, granddaughter of Michael Redgrave. She has pursued the family business with uncommon class and distinction. On Broadway-in Anna Christie, Closer, A Streetcar Named Desire and especially in her Tony-winning turn as Sally Bowles in Cabaret-her work has been elegant, smart and forceful. She will be missed.

Behold the wreckage of what is was Christiano Ronaldo’s Ferrari.  He was on his way to practice this morning when ran into a barrier, totaling the car.  Believe it or not, he’s fine.  A little shaken up, but fine.  He submitted to a breathalyzer test and passed.  Being the pro that he is, he went on to practice after the accident.  I guess he’ll just have to suffer and drive his Porsche for a while, until he gets a new Ferrari.  Poor guy.

CNN is reporting that Travis Barker and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) were in a plane crash this morning in South Carolina.  There are confirmations that 4 people are dead.  The plane was carrying 6 people.

Travis and Adam are in a burn center in Georgia.

I know I’m a little late putting this up.  But I just kept hoping there would be some “better” activity today to compensate for this.  So she apparently caused a little three car pileup.  She didn’t stop in time, hit the car in front of her, who then hit the car in front of them.  No one was hurt, the damage was really minor and no one was even cited.  Don’t assume she wasn’t cited because she was a celebrity….that happens all the time here in LA.
