10-year-old Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, the actor that played, little Salim in the Oscar winning movie ” Slumdog Millionaire” lies down inside his destroyed house in Mumbai tonight.
For the second time, in two years, Council workers bulldozed the family’s home (a tarp covered lean-to). The home, along with several others, was razed to create drainage in preparation of monsoon season which starts next month.
The filmmaker’s have repeatedly offered the family money for a home, renting a flat for the family, and other options. But through various problems including the swindling of money away from the family by rogue builders and family resistance, they remain in the slums in their illegally built shack.
