Executives at Bravo, home of The Real Housewives of New York City, are going to have to either find a new name for their show or do some serious recasting. Luann de Lesseps sorry, make that Countess Luann de Lesseps is going to be joining the ranks of New York singledom. After celebrating her 16th wedding anniversary with husband Count Alexandre de Lesseps, Countess Luann received an email from the Count that he was seeing an Ethiopian woman and is serious with her. I’m guessing the only “difficult” part in all of this for Luann is the fact that she’ll be losing her Countess title (since she only got it by injection) and probably won’t have quite the same financial situation. Count de Lesseps mostly lived in Europe and occassionally would come to New York. How can you be shocked when your husband shacks up with someone else when you don’t even live on the same continent?
So now Bravo has three single women on the Houswives show. Bethany Frankel (who was never a housewife), Kelly Bensimon (aka Slugger), and now Luann de Lesseps. There are only six women on the show. If 50% of your cast isn’t a “housewife” can you really keep them on as cast members
Countess Luann has a book of manners coming out next month. Countess Luann’s divorce probably won’t interfere with the sales of a manners book quite like the Britney Spears mental breakdown and the pregnancy of Jamie Lynn Spears (who was a minor) affected the sales of Lynne Spears’ book on mothering.
