Hmmmm…..I ran across this little promo/ad on Craigslist today. They are promoting a career fair for sports jobs that will cost you $30 to attend. Looks more like LA Kings are using the unemployment rate in California to ride on the backs of the unemployed to put some butts in their seats so the Kings don’t have to play to a nearly empty house. Look at how it’s worded – you can pay more to upgrade your hockey seat, but you don’t get any other job search benefits. You don’t get a longer membership to the job site (a one week membership to the site is only $9.95 and a four week membership is $29.95).
Given the current unemployment rate in California, that seems to be a bit off-putting. But wait, for your $30 not only will you be able to try to get a job in sports, you can then attend an LA Kings hockey game. The least expensive tickets for a Kings game are $55 (and in the nosebleed sections), so I guess that’s a bit of a deal. But wait…there’s more! You can upgrade your seat, to the 100 level, by paying $85 (those seats are at least $131).
