The venerable Liz Smith has found herself a victim of these trying times and has had her gossip column dropped by The New York Post.

So she leaves the world of New York newspapers with what sounded like a tongue-in-cheek prediction: “I figure that without having to pay my salary, The Post will immediately go into the black.” She said The Post was paying her $125,000 a year.

Not to worry.  Ms. Smith will not be out of the gossip biz.  She’ll be writing for the website she partially owns wowOwow, she’ll still be writing her column for syndication 5 days a week and is a contributor to the Parade magazine (which is found in  470 Sunday newspapers – including the Post), and a twice a week column for Daily Variety.
