With all the new Las Vegas hotels and condos in various stages of completion, or shut down, some interesting news from Steve Friess’ blog today. Trump International is firing 73 employees, 1/5th of their total staff.

Stephanie Schaeffer, the last regular Apprentice winner, who chose the job of VP Marketing for the Trump Vegas project, told “The Strip” the following during an interview in March – seems to be a bit of truth stretching now….

“We’re in the process of closing right now, and thus far we haven’t really had a problem. Everything’s been going pretty smoothly. Then again, when you talk about Cosmo and you talk about some of these other projects that stopped mid-construction or even pre-construction, you’re not talking about the Trump product, and the Trump brand carries again the Trump name, which pretty much says it all. People know they’re getting a level of excellence that is not only unsurpassed anywhere in the world but is something that speaks for itself. So even in a poor market, we’ve really been relatively unaffected.”

Having personally worked in a facet of the Las Vegas construction industry, when Trump was looking for contractors, I can say that this project has not been welcomed into the landscape of Vegas with open arms. I’m sure there are LOTS of people laughing hysterically about this.

Maybe Trump should take an entire floor of the condos that aren’t selling, and turn it into some kind of nightclub that exclusively serves Trump Water, Trump Steaks, Trump Vodka and he could use his old promotion team to put the whole thing together. Just a thought.
