This ad appeared in today’s issue of USA Today. So if you’re Lindsay Lohan, you need an ignition lock, but it’s okay to drink and drive if you just got married, you’re at a nice restaurant or club all dressed up with your friends, or your a corporate businessman wearing your Brooks Brothers finery. Because all of those things put a filter on your liver and in your blood stream and keep you from being drunk and crashing your car.

Thank you for clearing things up for us Interlockfacts.com (aka The American Beverage Institute) and making drinking and driving sound as American as apple pie and baseball.

Instead of Lindsay Lohan’s picture in this ad, why didn’t you use the picture of Nicole VanNeil? At the ripe ‘ol age of 22, she’s notched up 5 DUI’s. Oh yeah, and in her latest one she was 8 months pregnant. Ah, and we have Ms. VanNeil on videotape (courtesy of CNN) - scroll down for that. (See, since they didn’t put a picture of a pregnant woman in those scenarios showing when it’s ok to drink, that tells us - the dumb public - that we can’t drink, cuz we’ll be drunk when we drive. Apparently the fetus doesn’t have quite the absorption properties of say a wedding dress, a Brookes Brothers Shirt, or some designer dress.)

Lindsay’s lawyer has released a great statement to TMZ:

“USA TODAY is idiotic for running such an irresponsible advertisement, suggesting that drinking and driving is some kind of American ‘tradition’ we should protect. Not identifying that this ad was paid for by the liquor industry is profoundly reckless.

Drunk, old, white businessmen, drunk cougars out for girls night out, and drunk wedding parties should be kept off the roads of America. Lindsay Lohan fully endorses ignition interlock devices that have been well-proven to save lives.”
