
The promotional storm for Sex and The City has started. TheStew.com is reporting that they just received a “shoe box” containing a bottle of Skyy Vodka (one of the promotional partners in the film). While I would accept a bottle of Skyy Vodka being sent to me (hint hint), a pair of Manolo’s would cause an undying love and positive endorsement of just about anything for at least 6 months. But I digress. The Skyy vodka thing goes further in that they’ve developed a cocktail for each of the characters: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, & Charlotte. Look for them to be available in your local Houlihan’s Restaurant where you and your friends like Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, & Charlotte can all drink with each other and talk about your lives while trying to pick up Pete the balding trucker, Christopher the aging business traveler who eats at Houlihan’s because it fits into his daily stipend or you could have Joe, the father of 4 kids (under the age of 10) whose wife just doesn’t care what she looks like anymore. Seems like a spot on promotion doesn’t it?
Other promotional tie-ins that make a bit more sense:
- BagBorroworSteal - is mentioned in the movie, no doubt regarding some uber expensive or atrocious looking bag
- Mercedes Benz - the car is driven by Mr. Big and they recreated New York Fashion Week for the movie
- Glaceau Water - because there’s a pervasive “retail presence of Vitaminwater in New York.” (that’s a real quote by someone at Glaceau”
Promotional tie-ins we’d like to see:
- DVDsForaBuck.com - an online porn dvd club. Since they all have men problems we know that they’re looking for something to occupy them when the stores are all closed. Especially Samantha
- Alcoholics Anonymous - with all the drinking going on, it just seems a natural fit
- Papa Johns Pizza - what real women do when they’re alone because the couldn’t find a date, got dumped, or were hungry and can’t cook
