Wesley Snipes just got banged for $15 million and 3 years in jail for his years of not paying taxes. For years he’s argued that he didn’t have to pay taxes and was a dues paying, card carrying member of American Rights Litigators (and successor group Guiding Light of God’s Ministries) which claimed to help members legally avoid paying taxes. And the guy who prepared his taxes was a de-licensed accountant. (Both of those guys got nailed on felony charges with longer jail sentences than Snipes.)
After all the years of not paying taxes, and making declarations of why he didn’t have to pay taxes, he then makes a statement today: “I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spiritually motivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance.”
So he basically admitted that he’s an idiot. I mean, we already kind of knew that about actors….but here’s one who actually admitted it in public. Oh yeah, and then he had Woody Harrelson, Denzel Washington, and some other odd lot of family and friends write letters about his compassion and intelligence. (Ironic since he admitted himself that he’s not that bright.)
What is today’s life lesson? Don’t screw with the Federal Government.
