Back in 2005, Katherine Heigl (when she was still a nobody) and Tom Sizemore (yes, the one with the sex tape and DUI) made an independent film called “Zzyzx Road.” It was released, a very limited release, in 2006 and made $30. It has the privilege of being the lowest grossing film of all time. The goal was to take this direct to DVD, but due to its production budget and SAG rules they couldn’t do that. Blah blah blah. Well, now Joe Grillo (the producer and star) is giving a FREE premiere online. On April 17th, you can watch the entire movie online. If you need to own it, you can buy a DVD for $5. Grillo believes he can be profitable doing this type of promotion and marketing. The movie cost $2 million to make.
Grant (Grillo) is an accountant with a bad marriage and a daughter whom he loves. He takes to the road to service his accounts in Las Vegas. While there he meets seductive Marissa (Heigl). They have a week-long affair which culminates in the arrival of Marissa’s ex-boyfriend, Joey (Sizemore). Joey attempts to kill the lovers, but Grant gets the upper hand. Grant and Marissa then drive Joey’s body to Zyzzyx Road and Grant buries Joey in the desert there. But in the morning the body is missing and something is trying to kill Grant and Marissa.
Earlier this month, Katherine was biting the hand that fed her “Knocked Up.” She was whining how the movie “paints the women as shrews, as humorless.” Considering Judd Apatow had chosen Katherine as his first choice for the lead in his movie, that’s a pretty nasty thing to bring up. Her character in “Zzyzx, Rd.” is a homewrecking slut. The fact that the movie has been held until now when she brings in some $$ at the box office….hmmmm….I can’t wait to hear her tirade on this.
