No, this is not the newest version of a Furby or Pokemon, although it to is from Japan. It’s a voice operated remote control for all kinds of devices in your home. I know I know….I can barely operate my TIVO remote. I don’t touch the Universal Remote we have because I can’t even figure out where the on/off button is on the thing. ApriPoko, as they’re calling it, learns how to control your different electronic toys by watching and asking questions. (I know….creeeeepy) When its sensors pick up an IR (infrared signal) it asks you “What did you just do?” (Oh great, sounds like having another spouse. Although the question doesn’t end in dumbass, idiot, or you moron.) So then you tell it what you did - “I turned on the TV.” ApriPoko then commits the signal to its memory. The next time you want to turn on the TV, you just tell it to turn on the TV. I’m all for making things simpler, but voice command stuff never works for me. When I tell my phone to call my husband, it calls an old work partner, that my husband hates (no, he doesn’t know that). When I tell my car to turn on the radio, it turns on the navigation. So having this new remote control in my house could cause me to end up on the floor, in the fetal position bawling my brains out while the TV goes on and off randomly changing channels, lights going on and off, the stereo blaring and the computer printing running non-stop. Toshiba still has this in prototype, so maybe I’ll forward this off to them so they can work on that voice thing a little bit more.
